Every year you are required to renew registration for your vehicle in the Emirates. All things related to driving or registering your vehicle in Abu Dhabi are done through the Abu Dhabi Police Department. The department is pretty well-organized and easily accessible for taking care of your vehicular needs.
When you initially registered your vehicle, most likely you submitted your mobile phone number. If so, then you should receive a message reminding you when it is time to renew your vehicle registration. If the timing is not convenient for you (ie if you are a teacher and it is better to do this kind of errand when you are on break), then it's a mere 10 dirhams per month (as of 2010 - this may change) late fee. However, be careful to consider the renewal period for your insurance coverage as that generally lasts just one month past your registration date.
