In a stunning series of events, the accused "Underware Bomber" Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab reversed almost two years of maintaining his innocence, and pleaded guilty on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, only days after requesting that whistle-blower Kurt Haskell be called as witness for his defense. Haskell now plans to file a lawsuit before the end of the year against individuals in government positions, including Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, who participated in allowing Mutallab's attempt to blow up Flight 253.
In a phone interview for Suite 101, this writer asked Haskell how he felt about not being able to testify.
Haskell said, "It's good and bad. I was looking forward to testifying. But I was starting to fear for my life. I also had mixed feelings about testifying in the defense of the guy that tried to kill me."
