With the big money this summer seemingly being spent on the future stars of the game, many people are wondering who are these youngsters who are commanding these astronomical fees? Jordan Henderson
The Sunderland-born midfielder made the headlines as arguably the first 'big' transfer of the summer, joining Liverpool in a deal thought to be worth 13 million pounds, with the fee eventually rising to 16 million subject to conditions. Having already collected his first England cap, as well as having established himself as a proven Premiership midfielder with Sunderland, Henderson must have felt it was time for him to make the next step up and join a side with European ambitions. Expectations are high for Henderson at Anfield, with Kenny Dalglish hoping that his new signing can make an immediate impact, either in the middle of the park, providing captain Steven Gerrard with much needed freedom, or on the wing, delivering balls into the box for target man Andy Carroll.
GIven initial impressions of the success Dalglish is having with the young English talent already present at Liverpool, such as Martin Kelly, John Flanagan and Jonjo Shelvey, many are hoping that the Scot can continue Henderson's development and turn him into a player who could feature regularly for England. Should Henderson's star continue to rise, then he will be playing in an England midfield which should feature the likes of Jack Wilshere and Jack Rodwell in the years to come, an appetising prospect indeed. Liverpool fans should be equally excited too, having secured a talented young midfielder with his best years ahead of him, and under the tutelage of Gerrard and Dalglish, the sky is the limit for Henderson, who could yet prove to be a bargain at 16 million pounds.
